about

As we continue to explore producer Ian Levine's immense disco back catalogue, here are the recordings he did with Tyrone Ashley, also known as Sammy Campbell who was the original lead singer of Northern Soul’s legendary group, the Del-Larks, with a string of classic soul records already under his belt. Levine having recorded two tracks for a singer called Charles Rousse that Levine thought was vocally not up to scratch, had him re-record those two songs, Feet Start Moving and Nothing Short Of A Miracle, both of which were signed to PYE Records and released as singles in 1976, none of them gaining much attention. As with Levine's other discovery from New Jersey, Doris Jones, he signed an album deal with United Artists. Two singles were released in 1978, Looks Like Love Is Here To Stay and Don't Stop Dancin', but the sales were not convincing enough for UA to release the album even though it had been assigned a catalogue number, and it was left in the can until Hot Productions put out a compilation in 1995. This one also included a 1986 rework of Just Another Rumor which Levine put out as a 12" single on his Nightmare Gold label, and a new track Every Bit Of Your Love sampling some of his vocals off "Surround Me".

about

Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench Blackpool, UK

Along with Fiachra Trench, his songwriting partner, Ian Levine helped develop the Hi-NRG dance sound courtesy of hits such as "High Energy" by Evelyn Thomas, "So Many Men, So Little Time" by Miquel Brown, and "(I Can't Believe It) It's a Miracle" by Moonstone. By the 1970s, he began recruiting American soul singers like Evelyn Thomas and Hazell Dean to storm Britain's charts (and America's). ... more
